Isidore String Quartet

When it fits, it fits
It is rare for a young ensemble to win one of the most prestigious string quartet competitions just three years after its foundation. The Isidore Quartet has achieved just that: founded in 2019, it won the jury of the 14th Banff Competition in 2022. The young ensemble from New York is characterized by their individual sound and extremely lively interpretations.

The musicians benefit particularly from the Alexander Technique, expanding mental concert performance through increased body awareness. It is rare to experience a young string quartet so relaxed, so at ease and at the same time so vital and mature!
After concerts at the Edinburgh Festival, the Lucerne Festival, in Hamburg (Elbphilharmonie) and Linz (Brucknerhaus), the quartet will perform in Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Berlin (Konzerthaus), Cologne (Philharmonie), Bonn (Beethoven-Haus) and Stuttgart (Liederhalle).

The album Adorations is a celebration of chamber music at its essence – a tapestry of joy, human connection, and the enduring resonance of lives intertwined. Each work on the album reflects a unique form of adoration, offering its own expression of wonder, reverence, and the profound beauty of shared musical experience. Comprising Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in C major, Op. 20, and Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in E flat major, Op. 44, the recital also features Samuel Barber’s celebrated Molto adagio and Florence Price’s Adoration.

Reviews

Debut at Wigmore Hall London
At its Wigmore Hall debut, this all ensemble keenly displayed precisely the qualities that led to its winning the Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2022.
In Haydn’s ‘Sunrise’ Quartet in B flat major op.76 no.4, the musicians combined a range of tonal colouring (including sometimes minimal vibrato) and attack with pristine cohesion, always underpinned by joy and naturalness.
Most memorable, though, was the group’s command of atmosphere in the Adagio, in which time seemed suspended.
