New Releases

The program features the world premiere of Léon Stekke’s Trumpet Concerto and Charles Koechlin’s Les Chants de Kervéléan, as well as works by Henri Tomasi, Joseph Jongen, and Florent Schmitt. This recording was awarded the Diapason d’Or and the German Record Critics’ Prize.
With his debut CD, Berner also meets the highest expectations. The album Héritage impresses not only with the brilliance of the soloist but also with its cohesive selection of rare Belgian-French repertoire from the 20th century, which sets accents with several world premiere recordings.
For the jury: Norbert Hornig.

Awards

After a 16-year break, the Maurice André Competition was held again for the first time since the death of its founder, Maurice André: Out of more than 100 trumpeters from over 20 countries, who had to interpret classical, baroque, modern and contemporary repertoire in three rounds of the competition, Sebastian Berner was awarded first prize in Paris!

Music in a State of Grace Another highlight
Alain Altinoglu, the festival director, conducted “his” Frankfurt orchestra, featuring Sebastian Berner, Maurice André Prize winner and trumpeter of the ensemble. The piece? Haydn’s Concerto Hob. VIIe:1, magnificently interpreted with a clear, lyrical sound that was never harsh.

International Festival Colmar
But the enchantment comes first and foremost from a masterful interpretation of Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto Hob. VIIe:1 (1793) by Sebastian Berner—winner of the Maurice André Prize in 2022, among other accolades, and one of the two solo trumpeters of the hr-Sinfonieorchester. His highly precise and nuanced playing, the gentleness of his attacks, and his round, coppery tone—never harsh or aggressive—captivated the audience. Added to this was a contagious joy (in the finale).
