New Releases

Praised by The New York Times for their “multifaceted artistry,” the multi-award winning (Banff, CAG, and Fischoff) Poiesis Quartet is one of today’s most in-demand quartets. Surfacing traces their artistic journey from the first work they performed (Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s Calvary) to their first commissioned work (Kevin Lau’s Surfacing). The recording also includes works by Brian Raphael Nabors and Sky Macklay, alongside a traditional African-American spiritual arranged for four violins.

Awards

The Poiesis Quartet is the 1st Prize and Commission Prize winners of the 2025 Banff International String Quartet Competition.
In 2025, the quartet received also the Cleveland Award.

“Being queer does affect our performance practice and ethos, making it more fluid and non-traditional. Representation and creating opportunities for marginalised and queer musicians are important to us. But I think it’s less about being a ‘queer ensemble’ than about being human-oriented. Queer culture has historically had to think outside the box in order to survive, find community and create opportunities, and that absolutely influences our programming. We’re interested in bending tradition and taking existing forms and moulding them into something unexpected – rather like drag.”
