Hélène Schmitt | Ensemble Luceram

Inspired by a prodigious appetite for ornamentation and her sheer joy of playing, Helene Schmitt knows the risks that she takes; a free sense of tempo and wild embellishments – her music speaks with the utmost expression.

French baroque violinist Hélène Schmitt is regularly invited to Early Music festivals and venues such as Halle, Goettingen, Cologne, Leipzig, Koethen and Berlin. A recording of the Rosary Sonatas by Biber (AEOLUS) was released 2017.

Her new programmes focus, among others, on Jean-Marie Leclair. A double CD dedicated to his works will be released in the end of 2020. Furthermore Hélène Schmitt will publish a novel on the life of the composer with a renowned french publishing house.

Reviews

Listen to her ravishing vibrato, changing with the finest nuance and tempo gradations, as she sustains a pitch. … There are now many recordings of these sonatas, but this one has the feel of an event… and… Schmitt’s Biber must be one of the crown jewels in Aeolus’ excellent catalog. Fanfare | CD Biber | Marc Medwin | May 2017
